Covalon Receives Approval for Sale of its Three Wound Dressings in Canada

Mississauga, Ontario – December 5, 2005: Covalon is extremely pleased to announce that it has received Health Canada, Therapeutic Products Directorate, Medical Device licenses for three products:
- ColActive Collagen wound dressing
- ColActive Ag antimicrobial collagen wound dressing
- CovaClear Ag antimicrobial collagen / hydrogel wound dressing
The approval of these dressings for the Canadian market is an important milestone. Covalon can now expand sales by entering the Canadian acute care and chronic care markets, with an increased product offering across a greater range of treatment indications which include:
- Pressure ulcers
- Diabetic ulcers
- Ulcers caused by mixed vascular etiologies
- Venous ulcers
- First and Second degree burns
- Donor and graft sites
- Abrasions & lacerations
- Dehisced surgical wounds
- Traumatic wounds healing by secondary intention
According to the 2000 Clinica Reports “New Developments in Wound Care “, the wound care market, world wide, exceeds $3.5 Billion US per year. It is estimated that the Canadian market for wound care is between $350 and $400 million.
