The Role

The Scientist plays a vital role the research and development team by leading the development of innovative, customer-oriented medical products; utilizing a project management approach from proof-of-concept to the technology transfer stage. This individual will exhibit ingenuity and be able to translate research conducted in a wet chemistry and microbiology laboratory into tangible concepts that can be commercialized. This role will be expected to provide scientific and technical advisory support services to both internal and external customers of the company. All scientists interact closely with research staff and employees at all levels. The role requires excellent time management, multi-tasking abilities, planning and organizational skills. 



  • Assists with experiments/tests/validations as required;

  • Maintains abreast with current scientific literature and emerging methodologies and technologies;

  • Follows an organized and detailed approach for data collection and recording (i.e. lab book) as well as interpretation of the data;

  • Participates in the development and updating of any R&D-related quality system process and/or documentation such as standard operating procedures;

  • Actively participates in research and development in a wet chemistry/microbiology laboratory environment;

  • Characterizes the physical and chemical properties of biomaterials using various analytical methods;

  • Evaluates biological or antimicrobial activity using microbiological techniques;

  • Participates in the validation of project-related analytical procedures;

  • Delivers regular project progress reports, including time reports as well as longer-term summary reports as required;

  • Perform other duties as assigned by immediate manager;

  • Functions as a project leader for internal and OEM related projects;

  • Conducts product development planning from feasibility study to design validation stage;

  • Utilizes project management concepts such as risk management, effective intra-team communication, and project deliverables;

  • Provides scientific and technical advisory support services to both internal and external customers of the company;

  • Assists in the training of junior staff members.




  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree or equivalent education in a biology or chemistry related scientific field.


  • 3 years of industry experience in research and development of medical devices/pharmaceutics or 3+ years of postgraduate experience;

  • Experience with the preparation of quality system documents (e.g. SOPs, protocols) and regulatory dossiers for medical devices and/or combination products (devices/biologics or devices/drugs);

  • Possess an understanding of the core processes of medical devices/pharmaceutical development including familiarity with project management concepts such as risk management, effective intra-team communication, and project deliverables.


  • Analytical mindset and excellent problem-solving skills;

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal);

  • Advanced computer skills, e.g. proficient in the Microsoft suite (Word [create and use templates], Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project), Access database, Adobe Acrobat, able to easily navigate through the internet to obtain technical information;

  • Exhibits strong leadership skills.


  • Positive attitude, self -motivated, detail oriented;

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision;

  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques;

  • Ability to work independently as well as participating in a team of professionals;

  • Ability to respond to urgent situations appropriately by prioritization;

  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail is essential.
