Business Development Manager

We are currently seeking a motivated, energetic and results oriented Business Development Manager.  This is a remote position ideally located in the North East United States.

Covalon is a Canadian public medical technologies company facing significant growth opportunities and change.  We are currently engaged in one of the fastest growing markets; Healthcare.  We specialize in research, development, and commercialization of advanced tissue repair applications, infection control, and specialized coatings for medical and consumer products. The Role

You will need to be confident, experienced and skilled in the Art of the Deal. Skilled enough to hunt for new opportunities; confident enough to engage senior executives/clinicians within potential distribution partners in Sales, Marketing, Business Development, and C-Suite roles; experienced enough to advocate for Covalon’s products with physicians and nurses; and savvy enough to close new deals in the wound care, infection prevention or surgical dressings markets. We sell our products directly into the medical market (hospitals, homecare etc.) and through distribution partners.  We also license our patented technologies to large medical company’s worldwide.  Your knowledge of the market is second to none, as is your relationships within the appropriate healthcare channels.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be performance driven, results oriented with a demonstrated ability to secure new business through strong communication and presentation skills. You are a seasoned professional with a proven track record of identifying and generating new business opportunities and expanding current customer relationships through outside sales activities, prospecting, and relationship building and account support. The right candidate will play an integral part in the future expansion of our company.  This is a unique opportunity and the role can be designed to fit the strengths and interests of the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Perform prospecting and screening activities to identify qualified customers for new business

  • Maintain accurate up-to-date sales pipeline and forecasts

  • Meet quarterly assigned revenue targets

  • Cold-call and network with your existing contacts to generate leads

  • Develop and submit comprehensive proposals based on individually or team assessed needs of potential clients

  • Collaborate with appropriate internal resources to develop comprehensive sales presentation materials tailored to the customer

  • Make formal and informal presentations, often using medical or technical data, and follow-up calls to prospective new business accounts with the ability to influence and close the sales cycle

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of all services and products offered by Covalon and awareness of the competition, i.e. positioning, market share, pricing, etc.

  • Successfully develop business within an assigned region or medical vertical

  • Coordinate business and product plans

  • Travels to and represent Covalon at various Trade Shows and Conferences

  • Travels to hospitals and clinical sites for meetings, sales opportunities and to provide product training

  • Participate in various networking opportunities (travel is required)

Qualifications   

  • Minimum a B.Sc. degree in a scientific, healthcare, or technical area

  • Experience in prospecting, qualifying, negotiating and closing business in the Healthcare Sector but are willing to train the right person with a desire to get into Business Development

  • Willing to build a strong understanding of the sales process and sales methodologies

  • Demonstrated ability to build professional relationships

  • Having worked with medical devices or in the medical device field is considered an asset

  • Strong financial and analytical skills with attention to detail

  • In depth knowledge of data analysis techniques, including the ability to present complex medical data in an accessible manner

  • Outstanding customer service and management skills

  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, interpersonal and team leadership skills

  • Customer relationship building skills and the ability to close business

  • Excellent PC skills (MS Office Suite)

  • Professional, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial spirit

  • Ability to work effectively both within a team and independently

  • Strong sense of initiative and a self-starter

  • Goal oriented to achieve targets through self-motivation, persistence and determination

  • Flexibility to move through multiple channels and product lines with a willingness to access other resource within the organization to help close business or move a stalled opportunity
