Marketing Scientist

The Role

The Marketing Scientist will work closely with Covalon’s OEM and Research and Development teams in researching and generating application specific data and corresponding marketing material for Covalon’s proprietary medical device coating technology and silicone delivery platforms.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to be performance driven, results oriented, with a demonstrated ability to  perform scientific and market research, be able to summarize data and translate research into layman’s terms, and be able to perform scientific and market research with minimal guidance.  The right candidate will play an integral part in the future expansion of our company.  This is a unique opportunity and the role can be designed to fit the strengths and interests of the right candidate.

 

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the OEM team to explore new verticals for existing Covalon IP.

  • Responsible for following relevant markets; including competitive technology, availability and costs.

  • Working with Covalon’s Research & Development team on data generation relative to formulation development of functionalized polymeric medical device coatings.

  • Responsible for characterization of the physical and chemical properties of biomaterials using different methods: IR-UV-Vis spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, HPLC, mechanical strength testing, electron/light microscopy, and fluorescence spectroscopy.

  • Following an organized and detailed approach for data collection and recording (i.e. lab book) as well as interpretation of the data.

  • Responsible for translation of research and generation of marketing data for presentations and website.

  • Delivering regular project progress reports, including time reports as well as longer-term summary reports as required.

  • Maintaining professionalism and staying abreast of new developments (internally and externally).

  • Acting as a liaison between the OEM team and the marketing team.

 

Qualifications   

Education: 

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. in polymer chemistry, biomaterials or related field; preferably with experience (or degree) in marketing and/or communications.

Knowledge/Experience: 

  • Exceptional ability to summarize data and translate research into layman’s terms.

  • An informative yet a creative approach to data translation.

  • Ability to perform scientific and market research independently.

  • Familiarity with project management concepts such as effective intra-team communication, and project deliverables.

Skills: 

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Advanced computer skills, e.g. proficient in the Microsoft suite (WORD [create and use templates], XCEL, PowerPoint, MS Project), Access database, Adobe Acrobat, able to easily navigate through the internet to obtain technical information.

  • Analytical yet creative mindset and excellent problem-solving skills.
